Peter Bray - Trust Board Vice Chair

Peter has been involved with school governance for nearly 30 years. He has been a passionate promoter of the Trust since its inception.
Peter has an MA in Disability Studies from Leeds University, a Diploma in Management Studies, is a qualified Management Coach and Mentor and Counsellor. He retired some ten years ago after a long career in the provision of support and care services to people with physical, visual and mental health challenges. His last role was that of Chief Operating Officer for a UK based charity with a global reach.
In addition to Peter’s involvement with the Hamwic Education Trust he is a trustee of Southampton Street Pastors and volunteers with a local organisation working with rough sleepers. He represents the Salisbury Diocesan Educational Board on the Hamwic Education Trust Board as their Corporate Member. Peter enjoys both his daily walks in the New Forest with his two English Setters and indulging his passion for coffee!!
Mandy is currently Head of Governor Services for Hampshire County Council. She started volunteering in her teens and over time has been a volunteer in the Citizen Advice Bureau and Scouting before becoming a school governor in 1991.
She joined the Hampshire Service in 2002 from a HR and management training background and as an experienced Chair of Governors and governor trainer. Mandy became Head of Service in 2010. She chairs the South East Governors Co-ordinators Group and the National Co-ordinators of Governor Services (NCOGS ) organisation. Mandy sits on the Department of Education Advisory Group on Governance alongside other representatives to help shape policy development and implementation at the DfE.
Alice was a senior leader in Hampshire Sixth Form Colleges for 20 years prior to her retirement in 2018, leading quality improvement and managing organisational change in close collaboration with leaders from all sectors of education. Before moving into senior roles, she taught History, Law and Languages across the 11-18 age range.
Alice has lived and worked in the Southampton area for most of her life. She believes that everyone should have access to high quality and inclusive education within their own neighbourhood and that this is best provided within strong, locally based learning communities. She enjoys choral singing, reading, walking and cycling, and is a keen Saints FC supporter.
Qualifying as a teacher in 1995, Ruth taught for 6 years in Yorkshire and Dorset before moving into leadership as Deputy Head of Hayeswood First School. Prior to retiring Ruth was the Headteacher at Springdale First School for ten years and the Executive Headteacher at Turlin Moor Community School for two years.
Prior to working in education, Ruth worked in medical research. Currently she works as an educational consultant, providing support for school leaders and as a Professional Tutor for trainee teachers and those in their NQT year.
Julian was educated in Cornwall and read History at Pembroke College, Oxford. Married with 4 children he worked for the Cusichaca Project in Peru before becoming a management trainee for HP Bulmer PLC. After 4 years, Julian retrained as a teacher and taught at various schools before being appointed as Head of King Edward VI School, Southampton in 2002. After nearly 18 years as Head he retired in August 2019.
Julian was a director of the Cranleigh Arts Centre and trustee of Culture Southampton. An ISI schools’ inspector for 20 years he was involved in a range of independent school institutions including various governing bodies, chairing the Forum for Independent Day Schools and HMC South Central Division.
Lucy is the Chief Financial Officer of Insensys Limited, a local engineering business in the renewable energy sector. Prior to this she was a partner at Deloitte in London advising a range of companies on audit, accounting and other areas of financial due diligence. Lucy is also an independent member of the Audit Committee of the Southern Coop.
